St William of York preschool is committed to providing high-quality care and education. We strive to make each child’s first experience of school a positive, faith-filled one providing a nurturing, safe, and fun atmosphere. The curriculum is designed to build the child’s self-esteem through hands-on, developmentally appropriate activities that stimulate the natural desire to learn. The children are exposed to kindergarten readiness skills through a unique balance of teacher-directed and child-directed activities which meet the needs of each child according to his or her age and individual progress. Christian values are integrated through prayer and participation in religious events with the school body. A strong home and school relationship is encouraged through participation in ongoing school events throughout the year, newsletters about the activities going on in the classroom and parent/teacher meetings.
Students in the prekindergarten class participate in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori-based religious formation program. CGS seeks to create a sacred, hands-on space, called an atrium, where both the children and their catechists work to hear, ponder, and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Christian faith as revealed in the Scriptures and the Liturgy. Within the atrium, children develop their relationship with God using hands-on materials. Guiding them into deeper prayer with God, the method is rooted in Sacred Scripture, Liturgy, and respect for each child's rich relationship with God.
